# What is a submission deadline?

Submission deadline is the number of hours a candidate has to complete their on-demand interview \(for example, 24, 48, or 72 hours\). You can enter “0” to allow candidates an unlimited amount of time. Defining a submission deadline provides candidates a allotted amount of time to complete their interview, which allows the interview process to keep moving forward.

By default, the countdown starts when candidates log in to their interview.

### Example: Submission deadline time starts as soon as invite is sent

Acme Corp is recruiting for a Sales position and wants to create a sense of urgency with candidates. The recruiter sets a submission deadline of five days, thus giving candidates five days to complete their interview before the interview stage expires. If a candidate can't complete the interview within the five day time frame, that candidate is deemed not a good fit for Acme Corp.
